Work

This is a concept I've been familiar with for many years, and have had intermittent experiences with. I spent most of my 20s in a weird, soul-crushing, guilt-enhancing space of avoiding work, and have been trying to get to know it better in the last few years. Right now we're pretty close and I have to say, it's doing good things for me.

But I just received the first few pattern chapters of dearest Amy's upcoming book, Not Your Mama's Crochet, and I gotta tell ya... work may eat me for lunch. I admit it. I'm afraid.

This is where someone needs to remind me about The Book That Ate My Summer, about how much work it was , what a good experience that was, how proud I am to be part of it, and how patterns look much less impenetrable when you sit down with them one at a time.

Also, please remind me that I can't even look at it again unil Knitty is finished. One thing at a time...

Okay, thanks for listening. Just felt a little overwhelmed and needed to vent.

Happy Vernal Equinox!

Oh, yikes. I look up and suddenly it's been 11 days since I posted (I'm counting today as the 20th... I haven't gone to bed yet, so it's still Monday, right?)

Anyways, Happy Spring to you!

That photo is actually from about 2 weeks ago. Cherry-blossom-and-daffodil season is in full swing right now in Vancouver. Zak and I are going to remember to bring our cameras with us on a little walk tomorrow afternoon (if it doesn't rain), and we'll get some photos of all the pretty around here.

Sorry I haven't been around lately. I've been working a lot, and I've actually had a crazy social life. It is not normal for me to have a crazy social life. I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Have I mentioned how Zak and I keep meeting cool people in Vancouver? Oh wait, yes I did. Never mind.

There's lots of knitting to show, but I've got a bit of an aversion to in-progress shots (mine, that is, I enjoy other people's). Maybe I'll get over it and take some when the sun is out. It's been out a lot lately, showing off all the beauiful scenery around here.

There was a time last year when Zak and I had decided to move back to Calgary, because we miss our families and friends rather a lot. When I thought we were moving back, one of the things I felt a bunch of regret about, was that I would have had only one spring here. I am so grateful that we decided to stay. The beauty of the city is not the biggest or most important reason why I'm glad, but it's one that makes me very happy, every single day. My heart is very full these days.

Not Bad For One Evening

I had some new experiences last night.
1. I held swords in my hands. Okay, replicas, but swords and I? We had not met before.
2. I ate oysters.
3. I spent quality time with a boa constrictor. I couldn't really get enough of the boa consrictor.
4. I tasted beautiful cognacs, and drank a Beautiful.

Zak and I also experienced the disorientation of realizing that, while we have been engaged in talking with exciting new friends, the evening has passed and it is suddenly after midnight and we have to catch a cab home. Thankfully, however, that is not a new experience. We keep meeting the coolest people in Vancouver. :)

(Okay, it's not like we don't have a good number of very cool and cherished friends in Calgary... but the number of cool, interesting, fantastic people we have been meeting here has been freakishly high. And it's been so easy to meet people. Really, it's quite wonderful.)

Hey Now, Hey Now Now

One day in my first year of college, some music coming from a classroom made my heart stop. I went in and found out what it was. After school, I asked my music-snob goth boyfriend if he'd heard of the Sisters of Mercy. He was quite full of disdain at the fact that I, before that day, had not. (What can I say? I was sheltered. And a geek.)

I have bought the album Floodland five times in the intervening 14 years. (I wore the cassette out 3 times before I bought a CD player, then the first CD ended up becoming defective.) It is still one of my very, very favourite albums.

And now, on March 26, Zak and I are going to see them in concert at the Commodore Ballroom, where I saw Ministry play shortly after we moved here.
I love Vancouver.
