Based on a True Sweater

Well, Shit.

Wow. You know what's not a great pick-me-up when you're tech editing a book? Going to look at the errata page for the last book you edited. I was so, so scared and nervous the week before the book came out, for exactly this reason. It seems like every single knitting book out there has errors, but still... you try so hard to make your own work perfect.

Zak and I have this imaginary contract which delineates some of the conditions of our relationship. One of the clauses forbids ritual suicide. He keeps quoting this at me at times like these, the bastard...

Well over in Sweden you're considered a knitting genious all the same, and as you said - ALL books have some errors. I know how you feel though - "mine's perfect and that's that" is what you want to be able to say... Soooo true. But hey, knitting genious of the west, you ROCK and so does your knitting so there. I'm knitting my first ever top down raglan and I think of you every stitch of the way. Just imagine... I'm knitting just like Mandy... LOVE! xoxox

well, you could look at it this way: the fact that errors are being caught means that people are reading the book, and knitting the patterns! i think that's pretty terrific.

trust me, all books have errors, especially books that have instructions or directions in them. just think how many things you did right in proportion to the tiny problems!

Don't worry too much about it! It doesn't look like there are too many errors anyway!

dude, it HAPPENS. All the time. Name one book or magazine that doesn't have at least one error. The only way to prevent it? Hire about fifty different tech editors and have them all knit every garment in every size. I bet there'd still be an error or two. You rock. No ritual suicide for you.

I'm a regular reader of your blog - but I've never commented before. But when I read the bit about your "contract", I just had to laugh, as my partner and I have one of those too - although we neglected to include ritual suicide. And here I had thought we had all the issues covered! Oh well, after 15 years, it still gets amended regularly (usually to suit me, naturally)

Love the book, and don't worry about the errata - there really aren't too many.

Yeah, errors are annoying and I like to complain about them, but, hey, you're human and human beings make mistakes! It's OK. It would be worse if you didn't care, and you obviously do.
